This is where we let you know what's going on in our area. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth a visit.
Traditionally, January and February are lean months in these parts and North Yorkshire can throw up some pretty filthy weather. However, don't necessarily let that put you off, some of the nicest days around here are those crisp clear ones when a long walk, a browse in the bookshops and a meal in one of the local hostelries makes for the perfect antidote to winter blues.

Give us a call before setting off and we'll give you an up to the minute weather bulletin. We have ourselves been known to be stuck behind a snow plough before now.

If you really don't fancy braving the wild and woolly North York Moors in the depths of winter, perhaps our Beverley base would suit you better?

We have a book room on the first floor of St Crispin Arcade, right in the glorious heart of this famous old market town. St Crispin Arcade is an old building housing two floors of rooms and cabinets presenting a wide range of antiques and collectables and incorporating the delightful Straddles Coffee Shop. St Crispin Arcade is open: Mon-Sat 10.00am - 5.00pm. Sun, 10.30am - 4.30pm

Beverley has a great deal to offer the visitor at any time of the year. From the marvellous Minster to St Mary's Church one can wend one's way along Highgate through Wednesday Market and into Butcher Row (St Crispin Arcade is situated at number 11 Butcher Row), continuing on along Toll Gavel through the old cobbled Saturday Market square to North Bar Within and a grand view of St Mary's Church. All along the way, little individual shops vie with the bigger names to tempt you. If you should call in at St. Crispin Arcade, pick up a free leaflet from there which provides a map of central Beverley detailing all the shops selling antiques, collectables and books. Have a great time!

Throughout the year there are numerous events at both Thornton Dale and Beverley. Thornton Dale Show is a summer event not to be missed and nearby Picketing, renowned for its connections with the famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, hosts an annual Steam Traction Rally drawing entrants and visitors from all over the country and beyond. As well as the Thornton Dale show, many other events are staged or pass through the village including cycle and car rally's and for the less energetic, during August/September a number of bands: Jazz, Classical, etc. provide open air entertainment on the village green on Sunday afternoons. What better way to enjoy an afternoon in the sun than with one of the famous locally made ice creams and in the company of the sounds of Glen Miller.

Beverley hosts its own Literary Festival and towards the end of the year there is a usually well attended Victorian shopping experience where local retailers and market stall holders wear Victorian costume and great bargains are to be had!

We will keep you posted about upcoming events, special book offers and the news and gossip from our part of the world. Check out the website regularly or better still pay us a call!
